Helping Cure Acne With Laser
Treatments
Depending on the type of acne in question, there are
numerous types of treatments, each geared toward improving the
specific type of acne involved. The mildest forms of the skin
condition can usually be treated successfully with an
over-the-counter medication or even a natural remedy, while the
most severe forms will need medical intervention.
Recently, the use of lasers for treating a variety of
medical ailments and conditions has become more and more
popular. And, the harmless, but often painful and irritating
condition of acne happens to be one of them.
Fortunately, acne is rarely unrecognized or misdiagnosed.
But, without that diagnosis and proper treatment, acne can
leave scars that last a lifetime, which occurs more often with
severe cases of the condition, whereas milder instances are far
easier to treat completely.
One of the very best alternatives for dealing with the scars
left behind by acne is using lasers, including a substance
known as erbium. And, the earlier treatment is administered,
the better the chances are that permanent scarring will not be
an issue.
Microdermabrasion, using crystals made from aluminum
hydroxide, is one of the newest forms of treating active acne.
The crystals are used to abrade the surface of the skin,
removing the top layers affected by acne. However, this isn't
recommended, nor necessary, for the mildest forms of acne.
This particular form of treatment is useful for dealing with
acne on both the back and chest areas, which is good news for
many people as back acne is notorious for being more difficult
to successfully treat than acne appearing on the face.
Acne scars will require a few laser treatments before
results are visible. And, unfortunately, those scars caused the
most severe types of acne, or prolonged acne, do not respond
well to this form of treatment.
The main drawback of microdermabrasion therapy is the fact
that it is "operator dependent,"
meaning the success of the laser is contingent upon the
knowledge of the person administering treatment. If not done
correctly, side effects such as additional scarring, excessive
peeling, or hypo-pigmentation may occur.
Because of these reasons, it's extremely important to choose
a qualified doctor or dermatologist who is well versed in the
use of lasers for treating acne to ensure further damage to the
skin doesn't occur, making the scarring appear worse.
A rather gentle, yet effective type of laser treatment for
acne and acne scares is erbium, which involves no blood or pain
and has produced favorable results for many.
The actual procedure of laser treatments for acne is
surprisingly fast and thanks to advances in technology, is also
very accurate. For the most severe cases of acne scarring,
treatment may be done over a longer period of time if
desired.
While side effects of laser treatments for acne are minimal
and may not even occur in some people, as with any type of
treatment, there are still risks to consider. Discussing your
options in depth with your doctor will help to decide if laser
treatments are the best option for you, or if perhaps another
form of acne treatment may be more effective.
If left untreated acne can be a serious problem.
